Artisan vs. Designer vs. Niche
The term niche originally describes a company serving a specialized segment of the market. Within the fragrance community, however, it is often used more broadly to describe perfumes perceived as distinctive, independent, or less commercially driven.
A niche brand is not necessarily an artisan perfumery. Many respected designer and niche brands work with outside perfumers and manufacturing partners. Artisan perfumery differs because the perfumer is typically also the founder, formulator, and maker.
